These are some of the screen shots of our final project in Web Design Principles (CS102-1L) class under Mapúa Tech’s School of Information Technology (SOIT). Given the fact that the subject is under SOIT and not from our department (Multimedia Arts and Sciences), our professor is a Computer Engineer and not a design professor.

To give a quick background, CS102-1L is about the basic principles of web development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other similar tools. The emphasis is on the knowledge of developing effective web sites.

So mostly, CS102-1L tackles basic HTML. Putting up image, links, and table for example? I bet most of us know how to do these already! A big thanks to social networking sites like Friendster wherein we can edit the HTML, CSS and the like. Remember?

I already had the advantage since I already tackled HTML, CSS, and JavaScript stuff back in high school days in Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC). The difference is that it is more difficult now because Mapúa Tech aims for much higher standards. One reason was Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)’s accreditation to Mapúa Tech.

Okay, our project (The Cardinal Spot) will simply give reliable and essential information around the Mapúan community effectively and efficiently. I see the online information dissemination around the whole Mapúan community as defective and deficient so why not make a website that will effectively reach Mapúans where they are? Or try to make an antithesis of Mapúa Tech’s website? In our information age and social media savvy generation, we need to transfer information easily and ensure instant access to information. Also, we will feature exceptional students and alumni to promote the Mapúan edge and move individuals particularly Mapúans. I could have made a simpler website, but I accepted the challenge.

I want my design strategy to communicate in a minimal and professional manner in order to create a positive visual impact and interest to the whole Mapúan community. I want my audience to react, feel, and think in order to establish effective communication by means of a positive and appropriate image. I also made effective information architecture because I value my visitor’s time and I provided an interesting, unique, interactive and intellectual experience.

We had the final project presentation and defense last Saturday and I got the highest individual grade of 97/100 and our team garnered 100/100 for the presentation and defense so I guess I can already put all my worries away for this subject.

I know was not able to blog for a long time, but thanks for reading and hello to all of the new followers of this blog!
